The European Parliament is aimed at fixing the conditions of, in essence, a “cartel agreement” of the liberal pro-American political mainstream in order to prevent the strengthening of nationally oriented parties and movements in the future composition of the EP. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.
This is how Zakharova commented on the next anti-Russian resolution of the European Parliament adopted on February 8, which contains a number of accusations against the Russian Federation, including interference in “democratic processes in the EU.”
The representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry was asked a corresponding question at the briefing.
The Russian Foreign Ministry usually does not comment on resolutions adopted by the European Parliament, the diplomat emphasized, but it is difficult to ignore the mentioned document, “which has become another example of the unprecedented level of hypocrisy and double standards that pervade this European institution.”
“… it is quite obvious that the main purpose of the resolution is to fix the conditions of, in fact, a “cartel agreement” of the liberal pro-American political mainstream in order to prevent the strengthening of nationally oriented parties and movements in the future composition of the European Parliament…
And they have something to fear. After all, the socio-economic situation in the EU at the end of the legislative period is clearly unsatisfactory… That is why there is an objective strengthening of the positions of alternative political forces, as evidenced by the results of numerous public opinion polls conducted in Europe.
Thus, under the slogan of “fighting the Russian threat,” a total cleansing of the political landscape from inconvenient and increasingly dangerous competitors is being carried out.
As for attempts to accuse Russia of interfering in “democratic processes,” they are ridiculous by definition,” Zakharova emphasized.
