Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Sunday that the West was “playing with fire” over supplying Ukraine with F-16s.
Lavrov said in an interview with Russian television, the journalist who conducted it published a clip of it on social networks: “He played with fire.. There is no doubt about that.”
“It is an unacceptable escalation,” led by “Washington, London and the countries in their orbit within the European Union,” which want to “weaken Russia,” according to AFP.
Washington had recently expressed its readiness to allow other countries to provide Kiev with “F-16” fighters that it demands, denouncing an “unacceptable escalation.”
The Russian Foreign Minister said that the escalation regarding the supply of weapons to Kiev is unacceptable, and many “reasonable people” in the West understand this.
Lavrov added, “This is an unacceptable escalation. I think there are still people in the West who understand that, but everything is dictated by Washington and London to its allies within the European Union,” according to the Russian news site “Sputnik”.
Lavrov previously indicated that any shipment containing weapons to Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia.
The Russian Foreign Minister pointed out that the statements of the Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, that Kiev will not regain the lost areas in the future, is a step forward to understand the developments in reality.
