At the moment, BRICS should not carry out a reform through which it would transform from a union into an organization with a secretariat, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, quoted by TASS and BTA.
“BRICS is not an organization, but a union. I don’t think anyone is interested in turning it into a real organization with a secretariat. This is not necessary, at least at this stage,” Lavrov told the Russian television NTV.
The minister pointed out that BRICS is a symbol of the desire of the majority in the world to develop their initiatives jointly, “considering the interests of the member countries on an equal footing”. “This is a future umbrella over all subregional and regional processes,” Lavrov continued. The countries of Eurasia, Africa, Latin America and the Arab world are already part of this union,” the Russian foreign minister added.
In his words, “there are no organizations in the West that are equal and reach a true consensus.” “Perhaps one day the West will mature to understand that these processes are unstoppable and that it is the thirst for true justice that determines the increased self-awareness of the global majority – the global South and the global East. We are part of this process,” Lavrov said.
