At a meeting of the UN Security Council in New York on Monday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov accused the US of giving Ukraine old scrap weapons while building up its own military.
In November, The Washington Post wrote that of the $68 billion in military aid Congress approved for Ukraine, almost 90 percent went back to the United States.
The money should have been used to build new weapons or replace those sent to Ukraine from American stockpiles, according to the report Newsweek.

Russian state news agency Sputnik says Lavrov was referring to the 90 percent to the UN Security Council.
The foreign minister also claimed, without providing evidence, that the US is updating its own weapons with the funds earmarked for Ukraine, while the great power’s old-fashioned scrap is being used in Ukraine.

– The US is treating the conflict in Ukraine, not as a war that has already claimed hundreds of thousands of lives, but as a profitable business project, Lavrov is said to have said during the speech.
– War against their own
Lavrov also said that the war that Russian President Vladimir Putin started in February 2022 was not against Ukraine or the Ukrainian people.
– Russia was forced to launch a military operation against the criminal regime, because the regime had crossed a border. It had a sense of impunity and was unwilling to give up its war against its own citizens in southern and southeastern Ukraine, or its policy of total discrimination against Russian-speaking Ukrainians, who remain the majority in the country, Lavrov alleged.
He further claimed that the West has been quietly arming Ukraine and preparing the country for war against Russia for years.
In addition, Lavrov said that the Ukrainian forces have completely failed on the battlefield and are unable to defeat or weaken Russia.

He claimed that Russia is always ready for peace negotiations, but that the peace plans put forward by Ukraine and their Western “masters” are only used to cover up a continuation of the war.
– All these formulas are a dead end, and the sooner Washington, London, Brussels and Paris understand it, the better it is for Ukraine and the West, he said.
