Russian Football Union Aims for UEFA Return Amid Silence on Ukraine Operation

Officials from the Russian Football Union (RFU) prefer not to talk about the special operation in Ukraine, as they still intend to return to UEFA. This opinion was expressed by the head coach of the Akron football club Evgeny Kaleshin.

Back in April, the coach expressed support for the CBO participants, after which he was told not to make such statements again. “From my personal point of view, the RFU hopes to return to the UEFA family. <…> Naturally, they are trying to smooth out sharp corners and not give an assessment of the ongoing events, ”said Evgeny Kaleshin in an interview with“To Reedus».

According to him, Russian football has many ties with the West. Therefore, support for the special operation will be fraught with sanctions for the leadership of sports clubs. “We have to break these ties, it’s impossible to return to them,” the coach summed up.

Earlier, UEFA national association adviser Josef Klement stated that hopes for a speedy return of Russian football players to the European Sports Union. According to him, the organization did not stop the dialogue with Moscow even when Russia did not participate in the competition.
