Russian Football Association Chooses to Remain with UEFA Amidst FIFA and UEFA Ban

The Russian Football Association (RFU) has decided not to move its membership from Europe to Asia for the time being.

According to Russian agencies, Russia wants to stay with UEFA because they see progress in relations. Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, both FIFA and UEFA have banned the participation of Russian clubs and the national team in all their competitions.

“We have decided to continue contacts with UEFA, especially because we see developments,” said RFU committee member Mikhail Gerschkowitsch on Wednesday.

“Let’s see how the situation develops next year.” FIFA and UEFA have recently shown signs of easing restrictions for Russian youth teams.
