According to British intelligence, near the Ukrainian city of Tokmak, Russian forces have shot down their own fighter jet.
The Su-35 is the most advanced Russian multi-role fighter in widespread use. It is believed to be the fifth Su-35 to be downed in Ukraine since the beginning of the invasion. The incident happened a week ago.
According to British intelligence, the Russian plane was intercepted and shot down 20 kilometers from the front line, near Tokmak, where there is fierce fighting between the Ukrainians and the occupiers.
Russia’s air defense forces in the region are on high alert and in anticipation of Ukrainian attacks. This may be why they shot down their own fighter. According to Kiev, since the beginning of the invasion in Ukraine, 315 enemy fighters have been shot down.
