The military expert suggested what Putin would try to do on the eve of the election race in the Russian Federation: “I will say that somewhere before mid-December (you need to count according to the calendar), ninety days before the election date, the registration of candidates for the post of President of the Russian Federation stops. Putin likes to submit his candidacy on the very last day, especially since he is again trying to perform this self-nomination trick, and for this he needs to collect a certain number of voter signatures in order to declare himself a self-nominated candidate. Until this moment there will be aggravation at the front. The fact that today they are trying to go on the offensive on a broad front in search of the weakest point in our defense is confirmation of this.”
Meanwhile, Oleg Zhdanov explained why it is so important for the Russians to achieve at least a short operational pause at the front: “Next, he will need at least a short operational pause for the period of the election campaign, so that nothing bad happens and for the regrouping and replenishment of troops. I think that they need a pause of no more than six months: they believe that this will be enough for them to resume offensive actions. This is approximately what the Russian side’s action plan for the near future looks like.”.
