Kahovsk HPP, Ukraine. War in Ukraine.

“We consider the Russian Federation’s bombing of the Kahovka hydroelectric power station (HEP) dam to be an act of terrorism against the critical infrastructure of Ukraine, the aim of which is to cause as many victims and damage as possible,” the representatives of the Ukrainian Embassy in Latvia wrote on their social network profile on Facebook, emphasizing that this post is Ukrainian Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the Russian terrorist act at the Kahovsk HPP in Ukraine.

On the night of June 6, the Russian Federation blew up the dam of the Kahovka Hydroelectric Power Plant (HEP), which is located near the town of Nova Kahovska in the temporarily occupied territory of the Kherson region. Dozens of villages on both sides of the Dnipro River are at risk of flooding.

Units of the State Police and State Emergency Assistance Services of Kherson region are taking urgent measures to evacuate civilians from possible flood zones. Residents of the left bank of the temporarily occupied Kherson region are being informed, the embassy said in a statement.

The terrorist attack on the Kahovsk HPP was hotly discussed by the occupation forces and propagandists of the Kherson region on Russian television, suggesting that it was planned in advance.

“The explosion of the Kakhovsk HPP dam is technogenic and ecological terrorism, the biggest technogenic disaster in Europe in recent decades, as well as another manifestation of Russian genocide against the Ukrainian people. This is the Kremlin’s response to the countries that are calling for peace talks with the Russian Federation,” the representatives of the Ukrainian embassy in Latvia wrote in their Facebook post.

The lowering of the water level in the Kahovska Reservoir indicates a threat to another Russian-occupied critical infrastructure facility, the Zaporizhzhya NPP.

“We call on the international community to strongly condemn the terrorist attack by Russia at the Kahovsk HPP,” the embassy’s post emphasized. “The technogenic crime of the Russian Federation confirms the great importance of the Peace Formula of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. We call on international partners to join its implementation as soon as possible, especially in matters of the fight against ecocide, nuclear safety and security of energy supply.”

Russia will have to compensate for all the consequences of its crime: both for people, infrastructure and the environment. “We also call on the G7 countries and the EU to urgently consider imposing new far-reaching sanctions against the Russian Federation, especially against the Russian missile industry and nuclear industry,” according to representatives of the Ukrainian Embassy in Latvia.

On the morning of June 6, at the meeting of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, the list of response actions proposed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, was approved, which includes, in particular, the convening of an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council and consideration of the issue of a terrorist attack by Russia at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Council meeting, as well as involvement of the European Union civil protection mechanism.
