Russian Ex-Soldiers: A Disturbing Pattern of Violence and Conflict

It is not the first time that it has been established that Russian ex-soldiers are unable to live in peace and get along with their fellow citizens when they return from the war in Ukraine. The Prionezhsk district court of Karelia detained two men aged 37 and 38 in the case of the murder of six residents of the village of Derevjanoye, whose bodies were found on the night of August 1, “The Insider” article.

The Ministry of the Interior tentatively refers to the murder as “a protracted conflict due to domestic reasons”. Knife wounds were fixed on the bodies of the dead. As the Investigative Committee notes, the defendants have previously been “repeatedly prosecuted, including for serious crimes.”

Local media reports that the names of the detainees are Igors Sofonovs and Maksims Bochkarevs. When asked by journalists in the courtroom whether Sofonov participated in the Russian invasion of Ukraine, he nodded. Later, at the court hearing, Sofonov also announced that he was wounded in the war.

Sofonov has published photos on his social networks in which he can be seen in a military uniform, and there is also a photo with the logo of the “Storm” unit, known for the fact that former prisoners fight in it.
Both detainees deny the guilt. Bochkarev’s lawyer claims that his client was beaten by the police, writes “Daily Karelia”.

The second known case of murder, committed by a former resident of Wagner, took place on October 3.

According to investigators, he set fire to a home where two women were staying.

A fire broke out in one of the houses in the village of Ermakovskoye on the night of October 3. After extinguishing the fire, operatives found the bodies of two women in the house – the 68-year-old owner of the house and her 35-year-old daughter.

A few hours later, the police arrested a 32-year-old former PMC Wagner fighter.

The Insider previously wrote about what happens to ex-prisoners who return from war. They terrorize their home villages, become addicted to alcohol, die of psychoactive drug overdoses and, like the hero of this news, kill people.
