Former Russian Mi-8 pilot Maxim Kuzminov was killed in Spain by professional killers sent by Moscow.
As he writes The country, the Spanish intelligence services have no doubt that the “long hand of the Kremlin” is behind the murder. Moscow is giving publicity to the murder of a deserter on purpose – it should serve as an example to others. At the same time, the only doubt among experts is who carried out the operation: the Foreign Intelligence Service, the Federal Security Service or the Military Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation.
Finding evidence of the involvement of any of them is difficult, since the crime could have been committed by armed foreigners (possibly contract killers) who are already abroad.
Kuzminov’s body, with half a dozen gunshot wounds, was found on February 13 in the garage of an apartment complex in Villajoyosa. The killers then ran over him in a car, which was found burned in the neighboring town of El Campello. At first, the Civil Guard believed that there was a settling of scores between criminal groups.

People familiar with the work of the Russian special services say that they often resort to cooperation with Russians living in Spain (there are more than 80 thousand of them) and mafia organizations.
In addition, Kuzminov made the mistake of choosing to live in the province with the largest Russian population (17,500 people). As of 2022, 600 Russians and more than 300 Ukrainians were registered in Villajoyosa.
Ukrainian military personnel and wounded who are being treated in Spain are under the protection of the country. However, Kuzminov independently decided to settle on the coast of Alicante – the Spanish intelligence services did not know about his arrival. According to some reports, the clue that led Russian intelligence services to him was a call from his ex-girlfriend in Russia.

Let us recall that last year a Russian pilot flew a Mi-8AMTSh military transport helicopter with a crew to Ukraine. He gave an interview in which he said that he did not want to take part in the war against Ukraine.
The other day, Russian and foreign media reported that Kuzminov’s body was found in Spain, he was shot and run over by a car.
The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine confirmed the death of Kuzminov. At the same time, the NSDC Secretary said that the pilot was offered to stay in Ukraine.
