Russian Embassy Staff and Family Members Leave Romania on Special Flight to Moscow

40 employees of the Russian embassy in Bucharest, together with family members – about 80 Russians in total – left Romania on a special flight to Moscow on July 1. This is reported by the Russian propaganda agency TASS.

The Il-96 aircraft of Rossiya airlines, performing a special flight with Russians on board, took off from the Henri Coanda airport in Bucharest with a delay of almost six hours. Regular direct flights on the route Bucharest – Moscow do not currently exist.

Some embassy staff have already left Romania earlier, so the total number of Russians who were forced to leave the country as a result of the downsizing of the diplomatic mission reaches almost 140.

Romanian Foreign Ministry June 30 informed that the decision to expel the Russians “demonstrates the current level of bilateral relations in the context of the start of Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine.”

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs that 40 employees of the Russian diplomatic mission in Bucharest, together with their family members, are going to leave the territory of Romania on board a civil aircraft owned by a Russian airline. This measure reflects the implementation of the decision of the Romanian side in a timely manner in accordance with the procedures used by other member states EU in similar situations,” the ministry said.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Moscow regards Bucharest’s decision as “a hostile attack leading to further degradation of relations,” TASS writes.
