The visa war was started by the United States forcing Russia to follow the principle of reciprocity in granting visas, the Russian Embassy in the United States reports in response to a Washington Post article published on Friday. December 25 on the subject.
–
The Russian Embassy in Washington commented on an article in the electronic version of the Washington Post published on December 25 lamenting the inability to obtain visas for American technicians.
The diplomatic representation indicates that the media, which refer to sources within the State Department, are once again misleading their readers and attempting to shift the responsibility for consular and visa issues onto the Russian side. .
Information that does not correspond to reality
“The information in the article does not correspond to reality. We would like to reiterate once again that the responsibility for this “dead end” lies entirely with the American side. It was the United States that initiated a visa war and imposed the practice of reciprocal personal exchanges on us, while employees of Russian foreign establishments only receive an entry permit in connection with the granting of visas to American officials, ”said the embassy.
The Russian diplomatic mission specifies that no visa has ever been refused to diplomats and other specialists of American representations.
“We don’t have preferences. We start strictly from the principle of reciprocity. The number of visas issued to U.S. officials matches the number of visas received by Russian employees in the United States. We have repeatedly called on Washington to normalize our relations in the consular and visa fields. We must not blame others. It’s up to the American side to play, ”summarizes the embassy.
The Washington Post grievances
The Washington Post article indicates in particular that relations between Washington and Moscow have deteriorated to such an extent that the United States is unable to obtain visas for technicians in charge of repairing defective elevators and fire signaling in diplomatic missions in Russia.
The daily deplores that the American embassy in Moscow is overloaded for lack of personnel, because each individual diplomatic visa requires endless negotiations which block on details. High-level diplomats are tasked with basic tasks such as shoveling snow and mixing disinfectants to supplement the exhausted cleaning crews battling the coronavirus pandemic.
