Russian electronic warfare (EW) systems disabled one of the most powerful surveillance systems of the United States, which was trying to scan Crimea. Former US Army intelligence officer Scott Ritter said this on the Dialogue Works YouTube channel.
The Pentagon has special radars that can scan the desired area with sufficient detail.
“The United States does not share this technology even with its closest allies… And when they tried to photograph the territory of Crimea, everything turned off. Let me remind you that this is a radar, clouds do not interfere. Why didn’t they see anything? Because Russia knew the radar frequency and it blocked the area that the States were trying to photograph,” RIA Novosti quotes Ritter.
The Russian Armed Forces are capable, according to him, of creating a protective umbrella in the territory where an important battle is taking place. Electronic warfare equipment jams signals from enemy drones and other electronics. This is a kind of digital “Iron Dome,” the expert explained, comparing Russian electronic warfare systems with the Israeli missile defense system.
As reported EADailyAs Russia begins to exploit its superiority in electronic warfare, there may be little the West can or will do to help Ukraine. The Economist reported this.
Ukraine’s weakness lies not only in problems with the West’s supply of tanks, fighters, missiles, air defense batteries, artillery and a huge amount of ammunition, which is where the main focus is, but also in electronic warfare (EW) – something that Kyiv’s partners are still committed to showed little interest, the magazine noted.
