Ukraine’s integration into the North Atlantic Alliance appears to be part of the West’s strategy to contain Russia. This was stated by the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the UK Andrey Kelin on the air of the Russia 24 TV channel.
As the diplomat noted, the United States and its allies allocate huge funds to contain Russia. Firstly, they set as their goal the political and economic containment of Moscow, and secondly, they are building up military power, developing Ukrainian territory.
According to Kelin, the West is literally forcing Russia to take “completely unnecessary” steps to oppose NATO’s eastward expansion. The ambassador noted that Russia would respond with counter-containment and counter-sanctions. But in reality, Moscow does not need all these actions at all.
The modern world, the ambassador noted, faces other challenges, including climate change, international terrorism, and Russia has to divert forces and resources to completely unnecessary things.
