Russian diplomat at the UN spoke out against the war in Ukraine and resigned

Boris Bondarev, an employee of the Russian permanent mission to the UN in Geneva, announced his resignation due to the war with Ukraine. According to him, during his diplomatic service he has never been so ashamed of his country and work. Resignation letter published on Twitter lawyer, human rights activist and executive director of UN Watch Hillel Neuer.

“Over the twenty years of my diplomatic career, I have seen different turns in our foreign policy, but I have never been as ashamed of my country as on February 24 of this year,” Bondarev wrote.

According to him, the “aggressive war” unleashed by President Putin is a crime not only against the Ukrainian people, but also against the people of Russia.

“Those who started this war want only one thing – to stay in power forever,” the diplomat stressed.

Neuer, in turn, noted that now UN Watch is calling on all Russian diplomats to follow the example of Bondarev and resign.

Bondarev, according to the website of the UN office in Geneva, served as an adviser in the permanent mission. According to him, he was in the diplomatic service for 20 years. “Unfortunately, all these twenty years the level of lies and unprofessionalism in the work of the Foreign Ministry has been increasing all the time,” the diplomat said.
