Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and the Russian delegation have not yet been issued visas for participation in a number of meetings of the UN Security Council (SC), Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said. The meetings will be held in New York in April.
“No visas have been issued yet. Not a single visa has been issued,” Mr. Ryabkov told reporters (quoted by TASS).
Russian diplomats were denied visas for international events against the backdrop of the Russian military operation in Ukraine and the sanctions that followed in response to it, which included Mr. Lavrov. In the summer of 2022, the UK refused to issue visas to the Russian delegation to the session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. Poland made a similar decision in autumn. In September, the US denied visas to several members of the Russian delegation to the UN General Assembly.
In March 2023, Washington again did not give visas to Russians to participate in UN events. In April, Austria did not issue visas for most of the Russian delegation to participate in the session of the UN Special Committee. Russia presides over the UN Security Council in April.
