Yankina died after falling from a window of a building in the Russian city on the Baltic Sea on Wednesday. This is reported by a number of media, including American ones Newsweek and the independent Russian newspaper Medusa.
The case is being investigated by local police, Russian media write.
The Russian newspaper Kommersant writes that documents and belongings belonging to Yankina were found on a balcony on the 16th floor.
The cause of the fall is currently unknown, but Meduza cites a local Russian Telegram channel that speculates whether the defense chief may have taken his own life.
Yankina headed the financial support department of the Western Military District of the Russian Armed Forces. It is one of five military districts in the country.
According to the Russian website Your font has the press service of the Western Military District confirmed that Yankina was their employee, or are they referring to the police authorities who are investigating the case.
