Korean War – the armed conflict of 1950-1953 between North Korea and South Korea. The reason for the war was the desire of Kim Il Sung to seize all of Korea under his rule. Before the attack, he enlisted the support of the USSR and China.
The Soviet military trained the DPRK army, and before the invasion, Kim Il Sung asked permission from Joseph Stalin, and only with his support, the DPRK army invaded South Korea at 04:00 on June 25, 1950.
Kim Il Sung counted on the support of the population of South Korea and believed that his power was expected there, but the lightning invasion failed.
South Korea was supported by the United States and Western countries. By 1953, the conflict had exhausted both sides. At the meeting of the UN voted for a ceasefire. The front line actually retreated to the previous division along the 38th parallel.
Until now, a peace treaty that would formally end the war has not been signed. In July 1953, the United States, North Korea and China signed a peace agreement. South Korea refused to sign the agreement.
