Daniil Medvedev became the twentieth winner of the Miami Masters 1000 this Sunday thanks to victory in the final against the Italian Jannik Sinner 7-5 y 6-3 in an hour and 35 minutes. The Russian won his fourth title of the season and the 19th in his career, the first in the Florida peninsula of the United States where the top winners are Novak Djokovic and Andre Agassi with six stars each.
the serbian did not compete in the 2023 edition due to the fact that he cannot enter the country because he is not vaccinated against Covid-19. So, he was prevented from fighting for the title and remain as the maximum champion of the tournament that took place in 2007, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2016. The American, already retired from the activity, was crowned in 1990, 1995, 1996, 2001, 2002 and 2003. Behind them is located Roger Federer with four statuettes in 2005, 2006, 2017 and 2019. In his last award, the Swiss had the luxury of being the first to do so at the new championship venue, the Hard Rock Stadium of the NFL’s Miami Dolphins. The previous editions of the contest were at Crandon Park in Key Biscayne.
The payroll is continued Pete Sampras with three titles while Andy Murray, Andy Roddick e Ivan Lendl add two each. Medvedev is the 13th tennis player with a trophy to his credit. Among them, the Spanish Carlos Alcaraz stands out, who on this occasion was eliminated in the semifinals by Sinner and is the youngest winner in the history of the Miami Masters 1000 since he conquered it in 2022 at the age of 18.

The Russian’s path to the trophy began in the second round because he made it through the first round without playing as a result of being seeded fourth. In total, he won six games and one of them, that of the third stage, was due to the lack of presentation of the Slovenian Alex Molcan. The most difficult obstacle he had was his compatriot Karen Khachanov, whom he eliminated in the quarterfinals in a match that went to three sets. He was the only tennis player who could steal a partial. Against Sinner, they got their sixth win in as many matches against each other. This year he has already surpassed it twice, the previous one at the ATP in Rotterdam which was, coincidentally, another of the contests that he won along with those in Doha and Dubai.
His coronation in the Miami Masters 1000 will have an impact this Monday in the ATP world ranking, where he will rise to fourth place thanks to the 820 points that he will add and relegate Casper Ruud. Sinner, for his part, will advance from eleventh to ninth place and will enter the top 10 of the ranking whose new number 1 will be Novak Djokovic. Despite the fact that he did not participate in the tour of the United States because he cannot enter the country as a result of not having been vaccinated against Covid-19, the Serbian will benefit from the fact that Alcaraz discounted units because he was left out in the semifinals -Sinner defeated him- and should be champion.
