Russian cosmonauts celebrate capture of Luhansk region in space

The Russian cosmonauts showed up on the International Space Station (ISS) with flags of the self-proclaimed “People’s Republics” of Luhansk and Donetsk. Like the news agency Reuters reported, the cosmonauts wanted to “celebrate the day of liberation on earth and in space”. On Sunday, Russia reported the capture of the eastern Ukrainian city of Lysychansk and the entire Luhansk region.

We celebrate on earth and in space.” The embattled “people’s republics” in eastern Ukraine are only recognized by Russia and Syria.

In March, the cosmonauts had already caused speculation. After arriving on the ISS, they posed in blue and yellow overalls. This reminded observers of the colors of the Ukrainian flag. It was initially unclear whether there was a message associated with this.
