The President is promoting the Sputnik V corona vaccine abroad – but hardly anyone in Russia wants to be vaccinated. Putin himself is still waiting, while experts fear a third wave.
The workers in the Tver wagon factory can be vaccinated free of charge. But Igor, 46, is taking his time. “I have so many chronic ailments, I’d better wait for spring.” And who knows what Sputnik V is good for. “Three months of testing and that was it. The stuff has not yet been tested properly,” he says.
Meanwhile, Russia is pretending that the virus is ticked off: Shops, restaurants and swimming pools in Moscow are open. In other cities, too, apart from a casual mask requirement, there is not much left of the fight against Covid-19. President Vladimir Putin chats in front of the TV cameras …
