A Russian public company is considering suing Bolivia for the suspension of the purchase of Russian vaccines against Covid-19. The State Attorney, César Siles, revealed that legal measures have been taken to avoid international arbitration in this case.

The Russian company provided the vaccines through a contract with the Bolivian Agency for Infrastructure and Medical Equipment (Aisem). Despite the controversy, formal arbitration has not yet been initiated. The aim is to prevent the conflict from escalating to international bodies.

Negotiations in progress

Negotiations are underway to avoid shipping vaccines and maintain future business relations with the Russian company. In addition, a pending case was mentioned with a Mexican-Spanish company that has sued the Bolivian Ministry of Health.

The Attorney General’s Office, the Ministry of Health and Aisem have decided not to accept an additional batch of Russian vaccines, arguing that they have enough doses to cover the country’s health needs. This position seeks to avoid unnecessary financial commitments and guarantee efficient management of resources allocated to public health in Bolivia.
