Russian Civilian Population Under Attack in Belgorod: Yevgeny Prigozhin’s Wagner Group to Defend Russian Territory

Since the war broke out on a full scale almost a year and a half ago, the everyday life of the Ukrainian civilian population has gone from peace and tolerability – to bomb attacks, air traffic alerts and lack of access to civilian infrastructure such as water and electricity.

The same has not been the case for the Russian civilian population, who have been safely spared direct confrontation with the barbarism of war.

Attack on Russian soil

A couple of weeks ago, something unexpected happened when the Russian border region of Belgorod was attacked by a group of Russian rebels. The Ukrainian side denied any connection to the attack, but the group was clearly equipped with material from the Ukrainian army and the attack came from Ukraine.

After the fighting between Russian forces and the Russian rebels died down, there have been a number of other attacks against the region.

On several occasions, attacks have taken place in Belgorod also after the first reported attack, but Ukraine has consistently denied having anything to do with the attacks. From the Russian side, they have stated clearly that they believe Ukraine is behind it.

– Will not wait for an invitation

Leader of the mercenary group Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin, said on Saturday that if the Russian defense forces are unable to defend themselves against the attacks in Belgorod, then the Wagner group will come to the aid of the Russian civilian population.

– If the Ministry of Defense does not stop what is happening in the Belgorod region in the near future, then of course we will come to defend Russian territory. The civilian population is dying in Belgorod, says Prigozhin on his own Telegram-conto.

Furthermore, the Wagner boss says that he will not wait for an invitation from the Russian authorities before sending mercenaries there.
