The Lebanese Military Court acquitted a Russian citizen who was detained in the case of her husband, who was convicted of “spying for Israel.”
Lebanese security forces arrested the couple and their daughter at the end of July last year, and in August the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar wrote: “A Russian couple was arrested at Beirut International Airport while trying to travel outside the country.”
A source at the Russian embassy in Beirut told Novosti: “In early February, a hearing was held for the couple’s case, and the woman who was detained as an accomplice to the crime committed by her husband was acquitted, and the diplomats protected the interests of their citizens and rescued the child.”
The husband was sentenced to 8 years in prison on charges of “spying for Israel.”
The source added: “On Saturday, the woman and her daughter left Lebanon, after more than 6 months of arrest, and Russian diplomats were in close contact with the authorities, including with the Hezbollah leadership, representatives of the army leadership, and the Lebanese Foreign Minister.”
The source indicated that Russian diplomats were providing food and basic needs to the child and the mother, and lawyers and a translator were also assigned to them.
