Several months have already passed since the beginning of the implementation of the state program to replace the fleet of officials with domestic cars. However, the range of Russian cars is still small: budget Ladas or elite Aurus at the price of a Rolls-Royce. Perhaps the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in partnership with US, will solve the problem of the shortage of models in the mid-price segment. A Chinese manufacturer can help here.
According to the renderings presented by an independent portal designer, “naavtotrasse.ru“, a lightweight version of the flagship Aurus Senat Elegance 2024 may appear in Russia. Such a modification will reduce the high cost of the original Senat, making it more affordable for government officials. To develop a “state employee,” NAMI allegedly intends to attract Chinese FAW, which has extensive experience in creating comfortable premium cars under the Hongqi brand.
At the same time, the new Senat Elegance will largely remain a Russian development, having inherited many components and assemblies from its “big brother”. For example, comfortable seats trimmed with genuine leather will remain, and the old chassis will remain without adaptive shock absorbers.
At the same time, the simplified version will not receive the flagship’s hybrid drive. Instead, under the hood there will be a 2-liter turbo engine from Hongqi with a capacity of 224 horsepower and a torque of 340 Nm. Also from the Chinese partner Aurus Senate Elegance 2024 will adopt an 8-speed automatic transmission. For the most affordable configuration, it is possible to use a modest 1.5 liter turbo engine with 150 horsepower.
Thus, thanks to cooperation with a foreign partner, NAMI and the Ministry of Industry and Trade will be able to create a more democratic version of the flagship. This will accelerate the implementation of the import substitution program in the field of cars for officials.
