Japan’s Defense Minister, Nobuo Kishi, confirmed the incident. But according to him, the plane did not violate Japanese airspace.
“Two Chinese bombers joined two Russian bombers in Japanese waters and flew together into the South China Sea,” Kishi told reporters. AFP.
He then said, “After that, a total of four planes, two are suspected to be Chinese bombers [yang baru] and two Russian bombers, flying together from the South China Sea to the Pacific Ocean.”
Furthermore, Kishi said that a Russian intelligence gathering plane also flew from northern Hokkaido to the Noto Peninsula in central Japan.
Japan then expressed concern about the flight with the plane.
“[Pemerintah] have conveyed through diplomatic channels our concerns from the perspective of our country and the security of the region,” Kishi said.
Kishi noted that the joint plane flight between Russia and China was the fourth time since November last year.
In response to the statement, China confirmed the flight. They stressed that the flight was in line with Beijing and Moscow’s annual military cooperation plan.
“On May 24, the two air forces deployed and carried out routine joint strategic air patrols in the airspace over the Sea of Japan, East China Sea and West Pacific maritime areas,” the Chinese Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
Apart from that, Japan maintains official diplomatic relations with China, Russia and South Korea. Sakura country also borders the three countries and often sends jets to border areas.
In a year, Tokyo is recorded to have deployed military jets to the border as much as 1,004 times. Most of the jets were deployed to repel Chinese planes, and some of the Russian fleet.
