Russian celebrities reach out to Putin

«Fear and pain. NO TO WAR », it says under Ivan Urgant’s last post on Instagram. The message from the popular Russian TV presenter went out to all his ten million followers.

Shortly afterwards, his talk show was taken off the air for good, the newspaper writes Inquirer. By then, Urgant had been entertaining Russian viewers five days a week, for ten years.

Urgant is one of several Russian celebrities who have gone public against President Vladimir Putin. For many, it has major consequences.

Chess support

At the same time, the Russian chess player Sergei Karjakin has been clear in his support for Vladimir Putinthere are other big players who have been just as clear in their criticism.

Norway’s friend Jan Nepomnyashchij has 42 other Russian top players with him when he addresses Putin directly.

They write in a letter to the president that it is «unbearably painful to watch the disaster unfold».

It writes online newspapers Chess24. The letter was later republished by the Russian Chess Federation RCF, and by the International Chess Federation FIDE.

– It’s criminal

The biggest rapper in Russia, Miron Yanovich Fyodorov, known under the stage name Oxxxymiron, posted a video a week ago on Instagram where he says he is against the war. He too has millions of followers.

Fyodorov also canceled six sold-out concerts to be held in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

This also in protest against the war in the neighboring country, writes Business Insider.

– This is a disaster. It’s criminal. I hope you understand that I can not have concerts while missiles are raining over Ukraine, Fyodorov said in the video.

Oxxxymiron is not the only one who is clearly against the war in Ukraine.

Nearly 18,000 Russian, Belarusian and Ukrainian artists have signed a petition with one clear message: No to the war.

It writes the site American Songwriter.

Sergei Lazarev, known to many as a participant in the Eurovision Song Contest, has also taken to Instagram to protest against the war.

– Stop it all. Sit at the negotiating table. Let people live. Say no to war, said the singing star, who came in third place in the competition no later than 2019.

Lazarev’s instagram account has been closed since.

Director Kantemir Balagov, who will direct the series “The Last of Us” for HBO, writes on his Instagram that he has now left Russia.
