Agency Autostat published the February statistics of the Russian new car market. In the shortest month of the year, we sold 56,148 passenger cars: this statistic includes both official cars and all the variety of alternative imports. Relative to February 2022, the drop was 43.4%. However, in the past twelve months, February proved to be one of the most successful periods, with more cars sold only in March (78,928 units) and December (56,745 units) last year.

In February, Lada cars accounted for 38.4% of all sales: these are 21,558 cars, and an increase of 13.6% compared to the same month last year, although there are still only three models in service. The share of Chinese brands in February amounted to 36.4% – this is 20.4 thousand cars, that is, more than two times more than a year earlier. Kia and Hyundai are still trying to resist the “Chinese”, taking fifth and sixth place in the rating, respectively: this is facilitated not so much by parallel imports as by official batches of cars that enter the dealer network without too much publicity.

Lada Granta (15140 cars) remains the Russian bestseller, which accounted for 27% of all sales in February. Other models are far behind. Among foreign cars, the leadership is held by the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro crossover (2378 units), and if we add the updated Tiggo 7 Pro Max cars (958) to this indicator, then as a result, the “seven” sold 3336 cars. Of the non-Russian and non-Chinese models, Hyundai Tucson (838 units) sells best.

In two months of 2023, 101,379 new passenger cars were sold in Russia, which is 45% less than in the same period last year. But already in March, this alarming figure will begin to decline, because just in March 2022, the Russian market began a rapid decline.
