Russian Businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin Ranked by The Jerusalem Post’s 50 Most Influential Jews 2023

The Israeli newspaper The Jerusalem Post, which annually compiles a list of the 50 most influential Jews in the world, in 2023 mentioned the founder of the Wagner PMC, Yevgeny Prigozhin, in the ranking.

The Russian businessman received the 52nd and last place outside the main list with the mark “Postscript”. In a biographical note, the newspaper writes that Prigozhin “created a restaurant empire and a troll factory designed to interfere in the 2016 US presidential election.” However, as noted in the text, his activities associated with the Wagner PMC brought him worldwide fame.

The newspaper claims that Prigozhin, 62, who died in a plane crash on August 23, had a Jewish father and was eligible for aliyah to Israel.

The leader of The Jerusalem Post ranking in 2023 was the head of the American company OpenAI, Sam Altman. Second and third places were taken by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

On the 22nd line of the rating, the newspaper placed Russian businessman Roman Abramovich along with the president of the Israeli Friendship Fund (Keren Le-edidut) Yael Eckstein, calling them Jews who support Ukraine. The authors of the list noted that despite the sanctions, Abramovich “played a decisive behind-the-scenes role as a neutral party facilitating peace negotiations” between Russia and Ukraine.

In 2022, the ranking of the most influential Jews in the world according to The Jerusalem Post headed President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky. True, later accommodated in second place, giving the leadership to Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid. In 2023, the publication did not include him on the list.
