Russian boxing world champion 2021 Mark Petrovsky would like to fight WBA (Super), WBO and IBF heavyweight boxing world champion, Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk. The Russian told RBC Sport.
“The desire, of course, is there. Anyone who enters the ring dreams of a belt and a world title. In Russia, Alexander Povetkin has long been a prime example of a heavyweight boxer. I want to get close to his achievements and try to step over him, ”said Petrovsky.
According to him, the idea of u200bu200bsuch a duel can become a prospect for the future. “I’m still far from this level, but I think I can do everything. Time will tell,” he added.
In 2021, Petrovsky won the gold medal at the World Championships in Belgrade in the over 92 kg category. The last time a Russian boxer stood on the top step of the world heavyweight championship podium was in 2003, when former WBA (2011-2013) and WBC (2020-2021) champion Alexander Povetkin became a winner.
Petrovsky had his last fight on December 21 at the Dynamo Boxing Promotions tournament in Moscow against the representative of Uzbekistan Akhmad Mamadzhanov. The Russian eliminated his opponent in the first round.
35-year-old Usyk is undefeated in the professional ring – he has 20 victories, including 13 by knockout. Usyk’s last fight took place with Briton Anthony Joshua on August 20 in Saudi Arabia, where he defended four WBA, WBO, IBO and IBF championship titles.
