Russian Aviation Suffers Significant Losses in Ukraine, Enemy Airspace Activity Restored

After significant aircraft losses, the enemy fled the airspace, but is now beginning to restore its activity.

Representative of the Air Force Command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Yuriy Ignat said this during the telethon. According to him, there was even a period – several hours during which there was not a single air target in the sky, because the invaders saw that they were being targeted.

“They draw conclusions and escaped from our airspace,” he said. He added that this situation was temporary.

Ignat reported that the planes appeared again and during yesterday several dozen guided bombs were also sent from different directions.

“Well, now in the morning we already see several strike groups of Su-34 and Su-35, which can prepare to launch strikes in the eastern and northern directions,” the representative of the Air Force Command emphasized.

Ignat noted that after the shooting down of the second A-50 long-range radar detection aircraft, they have not been in the sky for a week.

“It’s already the seventh day, if I’m not mistaken, the A-50 has not appeared either in the Rostov region or in the Sea of Azov. The enemy said that they will restore those that are in storage. It’s difficult to say how fast or long this process will be. But everything They urgently need these planes in order to plan attacks and conduct radar reconnaissance of the airspace of our state,” he added.

Problems of Russian aviation

As UNIAN reported, from February 17 to today, 15 Russian aircraft have been destroyed. Russia has been forced to significantly reduce its air activity in the east amid recent high losses.

In total, ISW analysts estimate that the Russians probably have about 300 different Sukhoi fighters. Previous air losses also forced the aggressor country to “pause” for significant periods of time.

ISW experts suggest that Russian forces may further accept increased air losses and continue to attempt to launch KAB strikes in support of Russian offensive operations. In this case, the Russian command will consciously take on the risk of continuing to count aviation losses in pursuit of further successes in eastern Ukraine.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense reported that in February alone, the Ukrainian Air Force shot down 13 Russian aircraft. Ten enemy Su-34 fighter-bombers, two Su-35 fighters and one A-50 long-range radar detection and control aircraft were destroyed.

It was noted that this is the best result since October 2022.
