Due to forest fires, the authorities of the Republic of Karelia declared a state of emergency on Wednesday, July 20, and thus, due to wildfires, a state of emergency has already been declared in ten areas of Russia.
The most devastating fires so far have affected the Sahrawi Republic, also known as Yakutia, and the Forest Protection Aviation Service reports that fires continue to spread there on Wednesday.
At present, fires rage in 745,000 hectares in Yakutia alone.
In Russia, due to the large areas, fires are usually actively extinguished only if they approach populated areas, but in other cases they are simply allowed to burn out.
Due to the fact that no rain is forecast in Yakutia, clouds of silver iodide were fired from the plane on Wednesday to cause condensation and cause precipitation.
Many settlements in Yakutia, including the administrative center of the Sahrawi Republic, are covered in thick smoke.
