The Russian authorities are considering the possibility of canceling voting in the presidential elections in the consulates of “enemy” countries, Vedomosti reported, citing sources from diplomatic circles.
Perhaps we are not talking about all the countries on the list of “unfriendly” (they are 49), but about a significant part of them. No final decision has been taken, consultations are ongoing. The deadline for forming polling stations abroad is January 24.

As is well known, after its invasion of Ukraine, Russia declared Bulgaria an “enemy” country for no reason. A number of Russian spies were expelled from our country due to national security risks.
An interlocutor of the Russian newspaper close to the Russian Foreign Ministry said that the possibility of canceling the consular vote was being discussed and a final decision would be made in January. The presidential elections in Russia will be held in March this year. “Elections” is tentative, as the winner is clear. Putin himself chose his “rivals” for the elections.
The newspaper’s sources explained the reason for the ban discussions as security concerns and reducing the number of consular staff. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the ministry was “investigating the situation.”
Political lawyer Oleg Zakharov in a conversation with “Vedomosti” noted that if polling stations are not created in Russian consulates in “unfriendly” countries, mainly in the EU, there may not be an easy way for Russians living abroad to vote.
According to various analysts, support for the war launched by Putin against Ukraine is waning in Russia itself. It is difficult to determine the real number of opponents of military aggression because of the ongoing repression in the federation and the lack of freedom of speech.
