On the night of Monday, it struck again in the Odesa region of Ukraine, in the port facilities of the cities of Izmayil and Reni, which are both located along the Danube river.
Iranian-built drones are said to have been used in the attacks.
– As a result of the attacks, a grain warehouse was destroyed. Tanks for storing other types of cargo were damaged, says a statement from the Southern Command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Preliminary information indicates that four workers were injured. Three drones are said to have been shot down.
The attack required great precision. The two cities are located only 200 meters from the NATO country Romania. The Danube forms the border between the two countries.
– This is the closest encounter recorded since the beginning of the war, reports journalist Andreea Georgescu to the Romanian online newspaper Digi24.
Watch videos of the attack here:
– We are talking about a distance of approximately 200 metres, adds the journalist.
– This is completely insane, reports the Danish analyst and security expert Oliver Alexander.
– They use Shaheds (Iranian drones, editor’s note) then. I guess they trust the accuracy of the $25,000 Iranian drones more than their own, multi-million dollar missiles, he adds sourly.
Romania’s president also condemns the attacks:
– I strongly condemn the recent Russian attacks against the Ukrainian civil infrastructure on the Danube, very close to Romania. This recent escalation poses a serious risk to the security of the Black Sea. It also affects further Ukrainian grain transport and thus global food security, President Klaus Iohannis writes on Twitter.
Article 5
The central provision of the Atlantic Pact is Article 5, which states that an armed attack against one or more of the NATO countries is an attack against all.
Russia has not yet attacked any NATO countries during its war against Ukraine. A missile that struck Poland last November was initially described as Russian by several news agencies, but was later reported to be a Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile on its way.
At the time, however, Stoltenberg was clear that Russia was to blame for the attack.
– Our initial analyzes indicate that this may have been a Ukrainian missile launched to protect Ukrainian territory, Stoltenberg said during a press conference after the incident.
– Let me be clear: This is not Ukraine’s fault, Russia must bear full responsibility as they continue their illegal war, he added.
A Soviet-era drone crashed in Croatia in March, but it too survived believed to be Ukrainian.

Grain attack
Russian attacks against the Odesa region have intensified after the Russians withdrew last week from the agreement that has ensured the safe export of grain from Ukraine across the Black Sea. The authorities in Russia say they will consider all ships heading for Ukrainian grain ports as military targets.
On the annexed Crimean peninsula, an ammunition warehouse is said to have been hit in a Ukrainian drone attack on the night of Monday. The pro-Russian authorities on the peninsula say eleven drones were either shot down or stopped with electronic warfare.
