Olympic Committee Russia (ROC) considers various sanctions imposed after the invasion of Indonesia Ukraine is a form of ethnic discrimination.
ROC considers the steps taken by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and dozens of other international sports federations have crossed the line and violated justice.
Because of this, the ROC was reluctant to hold meetings with the IOC regarding the discussion of recommendations for the participation of Russian athletes in international competitions.
“We consider this recommendation as ethnic discrimination. In this case to athletes of Russia and Belarus,” the ROC statement said RT.
The ROC considers the suspension of athletes from Russia and Belaurus a move influenced by political forces.
“It was clear to us that all decisions were made under intense pressure from outside forces far from understanding the principles of integrity of the Olympic movement and non-political interference in sport.”
“Now there is a consultation schedule, but it is done after the decision has been made and executed. So the athlete’s opinion, our opinion, is no longer important,” the statement said.
ROC also regrets that the decision made athletes in that country go awry just because they were born as Russian citizens. The ROC also asked athletes from other countries not to participate in calling for a ban on Russian athletes.
“In this situation, the ROC Athletes Commission calls on international sports authorities to refrain from politicizing sports and discriminatory decisions related to Russian athletes and to ensure equal rights for all athletes to participate in competitions,” the ROC said.
There are at least 27 world sports federations that have imposed various sanctions on Russia. Dozens of them imposed a ban on appearances for athletes, clubs, and the country’s national team.
