Russian athlete will play for Belarus. He set a world junior record – Athletics

Track and field athletes from Russia begin to migrate to other countries – so as not to lose international starts.

Russian athlete Matvey Volkov, who is considered one of the most promising pole vaults in the world, moves to Belarus. After obtaining a residence permit, he will receive the right to play for the Belarusian team at international starts. It is reported TASS.

On February 29, in Moscow, Volkov jumped 5.50 m and set a world achievement for athletes of his age (under 16 years). Volkov does not have Russian sports citizenship, as he has never played for the national team at international starts.

Yurchenko announced his resignation as president of the VFLA

“We decided to move to a union state – Belarus. It’s not about changing our citizenship, it’s about obtaining a residence permit, which gives the right to speak for the athletics federation of Belarus, and he will get the right to speak at international competitions, ”said the father and coach of the athlete Konstantin Volkov.

According to him, the final decision on the right to speak for Belarus will be made by the International Association of Athletics Federations (World Athletics). Volkov added that initially they applied to the Belarusian Athletics Federation with a request to give them the opportunity to train in this country in the fall, after which the organization’s chairman Vadim Devyatovsky contacted him and a decision was made to move. The trainer said that they will receive a residence permit on a common basis, and the transfer to a permanent place of residence will take place in the near future.

  • At the end of July, the World Athletics Council may decide to completely ban Russian athletes from competing in any status at international competitions.
  • The reason for this verdict is the refusal of the All-Russian Athletics Federation to pay on time (before July 1) a fine of $ 5 million, which was imposed by World Athletics on VFLA for involvement in fraud with the documents of an athlete Danil Lysenko, suspected of violating anti-doping rules.

VFLA was again left without a boss. Athletes can still perform at the Olympics – after changing a passport
