The Russian army has “conditions that facilitate the activation of operations in the direction of Kupyansk”, think tank analysts say.
Ukrainian officials have previously warned that Russian troops will try to capture Kupyansk and Borovi in the Kharkiv region this winter.
If the Russians capture these cities, the Ukrainian troops in the Kharkiv region will likely be forced to withdraw from the left bank of the Oskyla, and conditions will be created for further Russian operations along the Kupyansk-Svatov-Kreminna line, according to ISW.
At the same time, experts do not predict that there will be a large-scale attack along the Kupyansk-Limana line, which would be similar to Russia’s failed attack in northeastern Ukraine in the winter and spring of 2023.
Currently, Russia has not assembled sufficient forces in the Belgorod region to support large-scale offensive operations in other northern and northeastern districts of the Kharkiv region.
