Russian Army Deserters: Escaping Occupiers and Replenished Ranks in the War Against Ukraine

According to the Russian, more and more occupiers are planning their escape from the front and ways of how this can be done. Many Russians refuse to fight against Ukraine.

“Yesterday, 30 people escaped from the training ground. Can you imagine, with weapons, with everything. And now we are all being checked all the time. Here everyone is being rounded up,” says the occupier.

Deserters in the Russian Army

Let us note that the ranks of deserters in the Russian army, in particular, are replenished by the “Z” assault companies. They were created by order of Kremlin head Vladimir Putin from those convicted for offensive operations and urban combat during the war against Ukraine.

In fact, the occupation units staffed by prisoners showed very low combat effectiveness. Alcoholism, looting, and desertion are rampant among the occupying prisoners, including due to catastrophic losses.

Let us recall that in November 2023, Russian troops tightened checks of the local population specifically to search for their deserters in the area of captured Melitopol, Zaporozhye region. To detect the fugitives, they couldn’t come up with anything better than forcing them to say “halyaha.”
