Russian Army Attacks Ukrainian Regions, Damages Energy Infrastructure and Causes Civilian Casualties

The Russian army attacked Ukrainian regions on Monday night, the media reported on explosions in the Dnepropetrovsk region. In addition, the Russians also attacked from strategic bombers, which Kyiv authorities said were targeting the capital. Ukrainian air defense destroyed 15 of 18 missiles.

The city of Pavlohrad, which serves as a railway hub, was attacked twice by the Russians at night. Among other things, an industrial enterprise, two dozen apartment buildings and over 20 private buildings were damaged, said local official Mykola Lukašuk. In the center of the city, the strike broke the windows of a dormitory at a chemical plant, Reuters reported. “Two women aged 45 and 55 are in the intensive care unit,” Lysak wrote on Telegram.

According to the server of the British newspaper The Guardian, the Russian missiles in Pavlohrad apparently also hit the ammunition warehouse in the railway depot. Vladimir Rogov (Volodymyr Rohov in the Ukrainian transcription) also spoke about the attack on military targets in Pavlohrad on Sunday evening.

The spokesman of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Igor Konashenkov, in his overview of the development of the fighting, stated that the Russian troops carried out airstrikes on the objects of the Ukrainian military-industrial complex on the night of Monday and disrupted the operation of enterprises producing weapons, ammunition and military equipment. “All designated facilities were hit,” TASS quoted him as saying. According to available information, the spokesman did not name specific places.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko said the overnight attacks had caused significant damage to energy infrastructure. According to him, the strikes did not damage the power plants, but caused damage to the distribution networks. Some customers in the city of Dnipro and in the Dnepropetrovsk region were therefore without power, the minister said according to the Ukrainska pravda website. Problems with electricity supply also appeared in the Kherson region.

Czech President Petr Pavel visited Dnipro on Saturday, where he discussed, among other things, with regional chief Serhij Lysak about the restoration of the Eastern Ukrainian region, which the Czech Republic is taking under its patronage. According to Pavel, one of the areas that the Czech Republic wants to focus on is the energy sector.

According to the Ukrainian authorities, 25 civilians, including children, were killed in airstrikes by the Russian army on Friday, mostly in the city of Uman, where a missile hit a residential building. Moscow claimed at the time that it was attacking Ukrainian reserve units and military supplies. On Sunday, on the other hand, the governor of the Russian Bryansk region reported on four civilians killed as a result of Ukrainian shelling. Ukraine almost never publicly claims responsibility for attacks in Russia or on Russian-occupied Ukrainian territory.
