Russian and Ukrainian websites quoted Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski as saying that there are soldiers from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) currently inside Ukraine.
These websites, including the Russia Today network website, quoted Sikorski as saying – last Friday during a celebration held in the Polish Parliament to mark the 25th anniversary of Poland’s membership in NATO – that he thanks the countries that “took the risk” and sent soldiers to Ukraine.
The Polish minister refused to reveal those countries, nor did he clarify the nature of the military mission or specify their number, according to what was reported by those sites.
According to the RBC Ukraine website, Sikorsky was about to comment on the position of French President Emmanuel Macron, who recently said that he did not rule out sending NATO forces to Ukraine to support it in its war with Russia.
For its part, the Associated Press reported statements by the Polish minister during the same celebration, in which he said that the deployment of NATO forces in Ukraine could not be ruled out.
The agency said that the Polish Foreign Ministry published Sikorski’s comments through its account on the “X” platform (formerly Twitter), noting that these comments reflect a discussion taking place in Europe regarding how to help Kiev after the recent progress made by Russian forces, especially in the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine.
European leaders rejected Macron’s proposal, while Russia warned of an inevitable confrontation with NATO if it sent forces to Ukraine.
