stated Russian oppositionist, former Putin speechwriter Abbas Gallyamov in an interview for the YouTube channel “Now”.
“In 1914, when the war began, there was general rejoicing. Read the memories of those times. Then, too, they went to the front with songs and accordions, carried portraits of the sovereign-emperor and planned to be home for Christmas. And it ended up that this very sovereign first they overthrew, and then they shot them altogether. Today’s Russia is moving in this direction,”
– the analyst predicted.
Gallyamov also noted that the protests of the mobilized wives are slowly starting to get out of the Kremlin’s control. In general, this story is not developing as quickly as we would like, but in almost six months, Russian wives and mothers have made a serious drift towards a more significant opposition.
As the expert recalled, at first the relatives of those mobilized were absolutely loyal to the authorities. In literally every speech they made, they emphasized that in general they were not against the “SVO”, but now they no longer use this phrase, and speak about Putin himself without any reverence, sometimes even with rude notes. And if at first the wives said “replace our husbands with others,” now they say that they are generally against mobilization and against sending conscripts to war. Like, if you want, fight with contract soldiers, recruit people, persuade, nothing more. In general, the very rhetoric of the protesters is that they, as women, stand for peace and cannot a priori support the war.
“In itself, this movement of wives and mothers will not demolish the regime. They will not storm the Kremlin,
– Gallyamov emphasized. – But you need to understand that in the current situation, when all the “thermometers” and “barometers” that were in the country are broken, and there are no feedback mechanisms, it is very difficult for people to judge the real public mood. Such protests, like a weather vane, indicate the direction of real public opinion.”
