Russian Ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov recalled on Sunday that Moscow would consider “a strike in Crimea as a strike against any other region of the Russian Federation”, while Western F-16s could soon be delivered to Kyiv
For Moscow, Crimea is a region of the Russian Federation, the Russian ambassador to Washington recalled on Sunday. In a Telegram post published last nightthe Russian Embassy in the United States transcribed an interview given by Anatoly Antonov.
The latter assures that it is “important” that the United States “be fully aware of the Russian response” in the event of air strikes carried out in Crimea with F-16s in the coming months.
“Let me remind you…”
“I would like to warn the representatives of the administration [américaine, NDLR] about rash judgments on Crimea, especially when it comes to giving a ‘blessing’ to the kyiv regime for airstrikes on the peninsula”, warns Anatoly Antonov.
“Let me remind you that we consider the strikes on this territory as an attack against any other region of the Russian Federation”, insists the ambassador.
Anatoly Antonov believes that Washington opposes Moscow “through” kyiv. But the announced dispatch of F-16 fighter planes to the Ukrainian army by NATO countries could change the situation. “What would happen if American fighters took off from NATO airfields, operated by foreign ‘volunteers’?” warns the ambassador.
Biden will give green light for F-16s
On Friday evening, US President Joe Biden signaled to G7 leaders that he will give the go-ahead for Western delivery. fighter jets to Ukraineincluding US F-16s.
The training of the Ukrainian pilots “will take place outside Ukraine at sites located in Europe and will last for months,” said a senior White House official, saying “hope that this training begins in the next few weeks.”
Earlier last week, the UK pleaded for an “international coalition” to supply these fighter jets to the Ukrainian army.
