Russian Ambassador – Called in on the carpet

Russia’s ambassador to Denmark, Vladimir Barbin, must appear in the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday after a military plane violated Denmark’s airspace.

This is announced by Denmark’s Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod on Twitter.

– It is completely unacceptable and extremely worrying in the situation we are now in, the minister writes.

Sent fighter jets

On Saturday, the Danish military sent an F-16 aircraft after a Russian military aircraft violated the country’s airspace.

Danske Berlingske Tidende reports that the Russian military aircraft was of the type Antonov 30, a type of aircraft typically used for air surveillance.

Not the first time

Also last year, Barbin had to explain herself to Minister Kofod after a Russian plane violated Danish airspace.

On 11 June, two fighter planes SU-30 flew over Danish airspace at Christiansø and Bornholm. At the time, it was reported that this type of violation is one of the rarities.
