Russian airstrikes on Kiev hit key infrastructure | NOW

On Thursday morning, Russia launched another airstrike on the Ukrainian capital Kiev. Important infrastructure has been hit, a spokesman for President Volodymyr Zelensky said. Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin is in Kazakhstan to discuss the war with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

It is not clear what the objectives of the air strikes were. Oleksiy Kuleba, a military governor in the Kiev region, reports on Telegram that kamikazedrones were used with explosives.

The Ukrainian capital has been under fire for several days. Russia has fired missiles at several cities in Ukraine since Saturday’s Crimean bridge exploded. Russian President Vladimir Putin said the attacks are a “retaliation” for the attack on the bridge which is important for Russia.

Mykolaiv, a city in southern Ukraine, also suffered attacks from the Russian army in the night from Wednesday to Thursday. This was reported by Mayor Oleksandr Syenkevych.

An apartment complex would have been hit and several floors would have been completely destroyed. It is not yet known whether there have been any casualties.

Putin meets Erdogan

Meanwhile, Putin has arrived in Kazakhstan for a regional summit. Putin talks to Erdogan on the sidelines of that summit.

Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar spoke to his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu earlier this week. The two agreed that there should be a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.

Turkey has tried to mediate between the two countries since the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, with which it has good relations.
