Russian Air Attacks in Kiev and Impediments to Ukrainian Forces

During the past hours, the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, was under the influence of an air attack launched by the Russian army, while the air defense systems worked to repel it.

Perhaps these attacks impede the progress of the Ukrainian forces in their “counterattack”, which was launched months ago.

In the face of these developments, the Ukrainian army revealed obstacles to the progress of its forces.

‘A real horror’

After the mines, Ukrainian soldiers complained that the Russian “Lancet” suicide drones turned into a real source of terror for them, according to the New York Times.

A Ukrainian soldier explained that these planes have become a “very big problem,” as he put it.

He also added that it is difficult to shoot down these drones because they look more like guided bombs than drones, noting that the approach of these drones can be detected only before a short period of time, “usually 15 seconds.”

The report added that the Russian forces are significantly superior to the Ukrainian forces in terms of modern radio electronics equipment, especially their ability to pick up mobile phone signals and jam GPS and radio frequencies.

This Ukrainian complaint came days after the issuance of an American report that the landmines planted by Moscow, which made the Ukrainian forces move on foot instead of incursions using tanks and armored vehicles, impeded and slowed their progress, according to the Washington Post.

The report confirmed, quoting Ukrainian soldiers, that the long time to prepare for the military operation in the south and east of the country gave the Russian forces sufficient time to prepare, as anti-tank and anti-personnel mines were heavily planted at a distance ranging between 3 and 10 miles from their front lines.

An official in the Ukrainian army pointed out that these developments forced Kiev to change its strategy from a rapid storming with armored vehicles and tanks to a slow movement of the units on foot, stressing that mines have become a major problem in the battles, especially in Bakhmut.

A very serious problem

It is noteworthy that the Russian “Lancet” drones represent a very serious problem for the Ukrainian forces, as they recently destroyed a French self-propelled CAESAR cannon, which was delivered to Ukraine, and the giant “howitzer” was hit directly by a drone.

Experts pointed out to the “Telegraph” newspaper the capabilities of the Russian drones, stressing that their widespread use will expose the Ukrainian forces to more difficulties.

The newspaper considered that the warheads of suicide planes, as they are called, explode upon impact as well as being much less expensive than winged or ballistic missiles.
