Actor Alexei Panin, who escaped from Russia, published a photo on social networks against the backdrop of the Ukrainian flag, holding an American passport in his hands.
“For three years while I lived in Spain, I worked for the US State Department, and I have an American passport in my pocket,” the actor wrote.
Many subscribers doubted that he would receive American citizenship so quickly; some suggested that he deliberately picked up someone else’s passport for the photo.
As reported EADaily, in May of this year, a criminal case was opened against Panin under the article on public calls for terrorist activities or public justification of terrorism for statements justifying the terrorist attack on the Crimean Bridge. Then he was put on the wanted list.
In August, the State Duma called for the actor to be given the status of a foreign agent. In September, Panin was detained in Tallinn and placed in a sobering center. The Estonian Embassy in Russia expressed its readiness to provide the actor with “consular assistance” if necessary.
After that, the actor spent several months in Spain, and at the end of October he wrote that he had found a “new home” in the USA.
