President Russia Vladimir Putin acknowledges that nuclear tensions are rising due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. But Putin also said that Russia would not be the first to take sides nuclear weapons in the Ukrainian war.

Speaking at a meeting of the Kremlin’s Human Rights Council on Wednesday (7/12) local time, Putin warned that the Ukrainian conflict would still be long. The statement was made by Putin some more than nine months after the ordination Moscow’s troop deployment in Ukraine.

“We didn’t go crazy, we understood what nuclear weapons are,” Putin said.
“We have these assets in a more advanced and modern form than any other nuclear nation… But we’re not going to go around the world wielding them like a knife,” he added.
However, Putin acknowledged that tensions over nuclear weapons are now rising. “Such threats are on the rise. Why keep it a secret here?” he said.
