Russia will make a strategic mistake if it invades Ukraine

Foreign ministers from the G7 will meet in Liverpool on Saturday, hosted by their British counterpart Trass. The ministerial agenda includes Iran’s nuclear program and the crisis in Myanmar ruled by the military junta.

Speaking about the concentration of Russian forces near the Ukrainian border, the British Foreign Minister warned that Moscow would make a strategic mistake if it invaded Ukraine.

“We must stop Russia from doing so. I have made it clear that this would be a strategic mistake for Russia. And this G7 meeting is a demonstration of the unity between like-minded big economies that we will be absolutely firm in our stance on aggression against Ukraine. If something happens, it will have serious consequences, ”said Trasa.

Both NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken have previously made it very clear that there are real concerns about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and have publicly stated that if Russia launches an attack on Ukraine, it will will have serious consequences.

A stronger collective stance against China is also being discussed at the G7 foreign ministers’ meeting in Liverpool. This week, the United States, Britain and Australia announced a diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, accusing China of human rights abuses against Uighurs and other ethnic minorities.
