“We are deeply concerned by Russia’s substantial, unwarranted and unjustified military build-up on Ukraine’s borders in recent months, and reject Russia’s false claims about Ukrainian and NATO provocations,” the North Atlantic Council said.

“We call on Russia to immediately de-escalate, pursue diplomatic channels, and adhere to its international commitments to the transparency of military activities,” the North Atlantic Council said.
“We are seriously assessing the implications for the Alliance’s security of the current situation. We will always respond in a decisive manner to any damage to our security environment, including through strengthening our collective defense posture as necessary,” the NATO statement said.
Ukrainian anxiety about a new Russian offensive has fluctuated with a wave of Russian military drills this year, only increasing in recent weeks as Russia’s military moves intersect with the manufacturing migrant crisis in Belarus.
Russian officials maintain that the security stalemate can only be broken by Western promises not to expand NATO and other security guarantees for Moscow.
